Ayman Sanduka
Ayman Sanduka is a Jordanian political activist and mathematics teacher. On 21 December 2023, he was summoned by the prosecutor of the State Security Court following a Facebook post from October 2023 addressed to the King of Jordan in which he criticised Jordan’s diplomatic relations with Israel. On 24 January 2024 he was handed a three-month prison sentence by a criminal court under the new Cybercrimes Law for “defaming an official body”. On 7 January 2025 the State Security Court convicted him of “incitement to oppose the political regime” under Article 149 of the Penal Code and Article 15 of the Cybercrimes Law, and sentenced him to five years in prison, a judgment upheld on 15 September 2025 despite a July 2025 ruling that his post amounted only to “insulting the King”. During his detention he was transferred from the Marka prison in Amman to Al-Tafilah prison, and he alleges being subjected to verbal humiliation and being tightly bound during the transfer.
