Bakr Al-Qatawneh

Bakr Al-Qatawneh is a Jordanian teacher and civil society activist who has been targeted by the authorities for expressing his views online in support of Jordan Teachers’ Syndicate (JTS). On 2 April 2020, the Amman Magistrate’s Penal Court rejected for the fifth consecutive time a request to replace a three-month prison sentence imposed on him with a fine. Al-Qatawneh, along with fellow educators and activists Layla Hadidoun and Mohammad Seriwa, was charged under Jordan’s Cyber Crime Law for social media posts deemed critical of government policies toward the education sector.
