Bashir Salam Al-Maqtari
Bashir Salam Al-Maqtari is an employee of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology at Sana’a International Airport in Yemen. He was arbitrarily arrested on 17 April 2024 by members of the Security and Intelligence Service while walking in a street in Sana’a and has since been forcibly disappeared in their prison, with the de facto Houthi authorities preventing his family from visiting him or providing him with basic needs. Reliable local sources confirmed that his arrest followed his return from Egypt, where he had met with Yemeni figures residing abroad, and since then his family has faced intimidation, including strict instructions not to publicise his detention or reach out to human rights organisations, in the hope that silence would secure his release. Despite this, his enforced disappearance continues, and the authorities have refused to disclose any details regarding his health condition or the charges brought against him, deepening the suffering of his relatives and illustrating a broader pattern of repression and silencing of dissent by the Houthis.
