Bushra Al-Absi
Bushra Al-Absi is a Jordanian engineer and woman human rights defender who was placed under governor-ordered administrative detention on 16 July 2025 and transferred to Jweideh Women’s Prison. According to statements from her family, as reported by independent media outlets, her detention was linked to Gaza solidarity protests. During her detention, Al-Absi began an open-ended hunger strike to protest her imprisonment and was reportedly held in solitary confinement with restrictions on access to water. She was released on bail of 50,000 Jordanian dinars on 28 July 2025. Documented practice shows that the authorities have routinely imposed coercive “no-protest” undertakings as conditions for release from administrative detention.
