Dr. Ali Amer Al-Mashani, an Omani Islamic Education educator and religious figure, was held in custody on 16 June 2024, for presiding over Eid al-Adha prayers one day earlier than the designated government date. This act reportedly violated official directives and led to his detention. He was arrested in Taqah, Dhofar Governorate, under orders from the Internal Security Service. Other individuals who were arrested during the same period have been released while he is still in detention.
