Dr. Ghaleb Mohammed is a prominent Kurdish politician and member of the Gorran Movement. He survived an assassination attempt on 26 February 2021. He was stabbed near his home in Sulaymaniyah, sustaining critical injuries to his face and head. Following the attack, he was admitted to intensive care, and his condition later stabilized. The Gorran Parliamentary Bloc condemned the assault, attributing it to “treacherous, sinful hands” linked to corrupt factions. He was then arrested on 26 June 2025 in Sulaymaniyah during a large-scale arrest operation launched by security forces ahead of a planned demonstration. He was detained alongside three other political figures, Ali Hama Salih, Rebwar Karam and Omar Kulbi. All four were held at the Internal Security Directorate in Sulaymaniyah and released the same day.
