Dr. Lina Al-Sharif is a Saudi medical doctor and human rights activist who has been arbitrarily detained since 26 May 2021. In May 2021, officials from the Saudi Presidency of State Security raided her family home in Riyadh, arrested her without a warrant, and forcibly disappeared her for two months. On 26 July 2021, she was transferred to Al-Ha’ir Prison in Riyadh, where she remains detained. Prior to her arrest, Dr. Al-Sharif was active on social media, discussing Saudi politics and advocating for human rights, including women’s rights, freedom of belief, and freedom of expression. The Saudi authorities charged her under Articles 2 and 19 of the Law on Combating Terrorism Crimes and its Financing, but did not provide further information on the specific charges.

She was released from prison on 19 May 2025.
