Dr. Nasser Al-Nawasrah is the vice president of the Jordan Teachers’ Syndicate (JTS), an independent union representing approximately 140,000 teachers across Jordan. On 31 December 2020, the Amman Magistrate’s Criminal Court issued a preliminary decision to dissolve the JTS and sentenced its council members to one year in prison. The ruling was issued with expedited enforcement, leading to Dr. Al-Nawasrah’s immediate arrest along with fellow council members Kifah Abu Farhan, Nidal Al-Haisah, Ibrahim Al-Assaf, and Mu’tasim Bishtawi. Although later released on bail pending appeal, this marked the continuation of systematic targeting of JTS leaders.
