Dr. Safaa Zaman is the President of the Kuwait Association for Information Security and Professor at Kuwait University, she was summoned by State Security on 19 November 2021 following a televised interview in which she discussed the risks associated with the Civil Service Commission’s data being stored on servers located in Egypt. Her remarks, grounded in her academic expertise, led to her being charged with broadcasting false news undermining the state’s prestige, causing public panic, and jeopardizing Kuwait’s relations with a friendly nation. The Criminal Court scheduled her trial for 11 January 2022. On 29 March 2022, the Court acquitted Dr. Zaman of all charges, a verdict upheld on appeal. Dr. Zaman expressed her satisfaction with the ruling, emphasizing that her statements were made out of concern for national security and were based on technical assessments within her field of specialization.
