Fahad Al-Kharousi
Fahad Al-Kharousi is an Omani human rights defender and Internet activist recognized for his work defending civil liberties and raising awareness about human rights issues in Oman. Al-Kharousi has been actively involved in documenting and denouncing violations against prisoners of conscience, advocating for political reforms, and promoting freedom of expression through online platforms. On 23 August 2015, Al-Kharousi was summoned by the Internal Security Service to appear at Al-Suwaiq police station in the Al-Suwaiq region. Upon his arrival, he was transferred to the Special Division in Muscat, the executive arm of the ISS responsible for security-related detentions. Al-Kharousi was released the following day without charges. This incident reflects a broader pattern of intimidation and harassment against human rights defenders and Internet activists in Oman. Al-Kharousi had previously been arrested in 2012 on charges of “illegal gathering” in connection with peaceful activism and protests. He was released after three days, underscoring a repeated pattern in Oman where activists face arbitrary detention and intimidation for engaging in legitimate human rights activities.
