Hadi Al-Sayed

Hadi Al-Sayed was a 22-year-old social media editor at Al-Mayadeen who was killed on 23 September 2024 when an Israeli airstrike struck his home in the town of Borj Rahhal near Tyre, southern Lebanon. The attack targeted a residential area with no reported military presence at the time. Al-Sayed sustained severe head injuries and died shortly after undergoing surgery at a hospital in Sidon. His killing has been condemned by press freedom organisations including the International Federation of Journalists and the Alternative Press Syndicate of Lebanon, which labelled the strike a war crime. Employed in Al-Mayadeen’s digital department, Al-Sayed was among the youngest journalists to be killed in the course of the 2023-2024 conflict, which has seen an unprecedented wave of deliberate attacks on journalists across Lebanon and Gaza.
