Haider Mohammed Hadi
Haider Mohammed Hadi is an Iraqi journalist and a correspondent for the I News satellite channel. On 6 May 2024, he was arbitrarily arrested inside the Karbala Governorate Council building due to his support for a sit-in that was being held that day by the family of prominent human rights defender Fahim Al-Taie, who was assassinated by unknown killers in 2019. Hadi was prevented from covering or filming the sit-in, beaten, and arrested. He was released the same day after being detained for several hours in the Camp Police Station near the provincial council building. After his release, he confirmed in a video posted on Facebook that despite his journalistic mission protected by law, a group of people affiliated with the brother of the Governor of Karbala assaulted him and arrested him without a judicial order, because they told him that they do not recognise the judiciary.
