Hajin Fatah Rikani

Hajin Fatahn Rikani is a Kurdish journalist and woman human rights defender from Dohuk Governorate in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region who works as a correspondent for Zoom. She was reporting on Turkish airstrikes and security operations and has been targeted for her coverage of such violations. On 10 July 2024, Asayish security forces detained her while she was covering Turkish attacks in Dohuk along with her Zoom channel crew colleagues. She was released a few hours later while her cameraman and driver remained detained for a further day. Fatah Rikani’s work documenting human rights abuses, including reporting on Turkish strikes against Yazidi media teams in Sinjar, placed her at risk, showing the link between her defence of press freedom and her targeting by authorities.
