Hamdi Al-Tlili

Hamdi Al-Tlili is a Tunisian journalist and correspondent for France 24 who was arrested on 11 May 2024 while broadcasting live coverage of the arrest of lawyer and media commentator Sonia Al-Dahmani. Masked security officers stormed the headquarters of the Tunisian Bar Association during the raid, seized Al-Tlili’s camera and other equipment, and interrupted the live transmission. He was briefly detained and reportedly assaulted before being released later the same day. His arrest and the confiscation of his work materials form part of the wider repression of journalists and restrictions on media freedom under President Kais Saied’s administration, in which journalists have been targeted for covering politically sensitive events or criticising the authorities.
