Hammoud Mohammed Al-Mesbahi

Hammoud Mohammed Al-Mesbahi is a Yemeni YouTuber and social media activist who was arrested by Houthi authorities in Sana’a in late 2022. He was detained alongside fellow content creators Ahmed Yahya Allaw, Mustafa Mohammed Al-Moumri, and Ahmed Abdelkhaleq Hajar, following their online criticism of the Houthis’ governance, including allegations of corruption and economic mismanagement. On 21 March 2023, the Houthi Specialised Criminal Court sentenced Hammoud Al-Mesbahi to six months in prison. The court accused him of assisting in the production and coordination of videos critical of the Houthis, particularly in his role as a director and secretary managing Al-Moumri’s content . In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered the closure of his YouTube channel and imposed a fine of 10 million Yemeni riyals (approximately $40,000). On 3 April 2023, Hammoud Al-Mesbahi was released following a pardon issued by Houthi leader Mahdi Al-Mashat.
