Hamoud Saud Hamdan Al-Rashidy
Hamoud Saud Hamdan Al-Rashidy is an Omani human rights defender and storyteller who has been actively involved in pro-reform movements and advocacy for freedom of expression. On 9 July 2012, he was convicted and sentenced to six months in prison for defamation after reportedly holding up a sign at a peaceful protest that contained statements against Sultan Qaboos. He was granted bail of 100 Omani Rials (approximately $260) pending the outcome of his appeal.
During the trial, he, along with the other defendants, was denied access to bail and subjected to secret hearings attended only by family members, reflecting systemic violations of due process.
