Hasti Amiri
Hasti Amiri is an Iranian human rights defender, student activist and graduate law student at Allameh Tabataba’i University. She has been engaged for years in advocacy for students rights, prisoners rights and women’s rights through protests, social media commentary and public mobilisation. Her human rights work has included speaking out against executions, advocating for due process for detainees and participating in demonstrations against toxic poisoning of schoolgirls and other social injustices in Iran. As a result of her peaceful activism, Hasti Amiri has been repeatedly targeted by the Iranian judiciary and security apparatus. In 2022 she was sentenced to one year in prison on a charge of “propaganda activities against the state” for her advocacy against the death penalty and in support of women’s rights, serving approximately seven months in Evin Prison before her release. Subsequently, she faced further legal harassment and was re-arrested in 2025 after appearing before the Shahid Moqaddas Security Court due to bail issues and transferred back to Evin Prison. On 18 August 2025, Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court issued a new sentence in absentia against Hasti Amiri totalling three years imprisonment, accompanied by fines, a two-year travel ban and a two-year prohibition on membership in political or social organisations, primarily stemming from her social media posts advocating for prisoners rights and opposing the death penalty in Iran.
