Iftihan Al-Mashhari, was the Director of the Cleanliness and Improvement Fund, Taiz Governorate, Yemen. On 18 September 2025, she was assassinated by gunmen on a motorcycle who opened fire on her car while she was driving through Taiz, killing her instantly. Local media report that more than 30 bullets were fired. She was the first woman to hold this position in Taiz. After her death, there were widespread protests in Taiz, sanitation workers went on strike, her family and workers set up protest tents demanding justice, authorities arrested several suspects (including the motorcycle driver used in the attack), and investigations are ongoing. There are demands for all perpetrators, including masterminds, to be identified and held accountable. Taiz Police announced that they had arrested four suspects in connection with the assassination.
