Iftikhar Boudraa

Iftikhar Milad Mohamed Boudraa is a Libyan human rights activist who was arrested on 10 December 2018 by members of the Internal Security Agency in Benghazi, reportedly due to a Facebook post criticising the deteriorating security and economic conditions in the city. Following her arrest, Iftikhar Boudraa was tried by a military court in Benghazi, which sentenced her to death by firing squad (this sentence was later commuted to ten years in prison). While detained in the military section of Al-Kuwaifiya prison, Iftikhar Boudraa suffered severe first-degree burns to her hands and face, allegedly inflicted by masked men who poured gasoline on her, stating, “The hands that wrote against the Field Marshal must be burned”. Her health has since deteriorated significantly, with reports indicating she is “between life and death”. United Nations experts have expressed grave concern over the sexual, physical, and psychological violence to which Iftikhar Boudraa has allegedly been subjected during her detention, calling for her immediate release and urgent medical treatment.
