On 19 November 2024, journalist Jamal Al-Badrani, director of the Al-Sharqiya satellite channel’s office in Nineveh Governorate, was violently assaulted by three individuals belonging to an armed faction who surrounded the vehicle he was travelling in. He sustained several head injuries requiring hospital treatment. The attack was recorded by surveillance cameras, making it possible to identify the perpetrators. In response, the Supreme Judicial Council announced on its Facebook page that the Nineveh Investigation Court, under the presidency of the Nineveh Court of Appeal, had opened an investigation into the incident. It confirmed that one of the accused had been identified and that investigative procedures were ongoing under the supervision of the competent judge, with direct monitoring by the Supreme Judicial Council.
