Jamil Al-Samet is a Yemeni journalist based in Taiz who faces harassment by authorities for his critical reporting on military leadership. On 11 July 2023, he was summoned by the Criminal Investigation Directorate following a complaint from the military leadership after publishing articles calling for their replacement. He was arbitrarily detained for a day and then released. Then, on 1 August 2023, he was summoned again and interrogated by the police, who accused him of tarnishing the police’s image. These actions are part of a broader pattern of repression against journalists in Yemen, where authorities continue to suppress freedom of expression and press freedom.
