Jaseb Hattab Al-Heliji

Jaseb Hattab Al-Heliji was a popular Iraqi poet and father of human rights lawyer Ali Al-Heliji, who was kidnapped on 7 October 2019. On 10 March 2021, he was assassinated. Jaseb Al-Heliji was a vocal advocate in trying to find his son, participating actively in protest to try to ensure his safety and have the perpetrators of his kidnapping face justice. His assassination sparked widespread protests across Iraq, including a mass rally in the city of Al-Amara where demonstrators demanded the resignation of the Governor and the Director of Maysan Governorate Police.
