Laila Al-Safadi is a Syrian journalist and contributor to the online platform Rising for Freedom magazine. She reportedly had articles banned and faced judicial pressure under Syria’s newly enacted Cybercrime Law, which threatens freedom of opinion and expression online. In the aftermath of an attack by a mob on the Violations Documentation Center (VDC), Rising for Freedom was banned and journalists including Al-Safadi were sentenced to imprisonment in absentia.
