Laya Jabik

Laya Jabik is an Iranian woman human rights defender, academic and architect who has been actively engaged in peaceful advocacy for civil liberties and human rights in the context of the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising in Iran. Jabik is a member of the academic staff at Pars University. On 26 January 2026, security forces arrested Jabik and her husband, Behzad Sehati, at their home in Tehran in the presence of their seven-year-old child. No official release has been made regarding the authorities who carried out the arrest, the charges against them or their place of detention, generating deep uncertainty about their situation. Reports indicate that Jabik suffers from multiple sclerosis and requires continuous access to medication and medical care, raising grave concerns about the impact of detention on her health, especially given documented patterns of denial of medical care in Iranian detention facilities as a punitive measure against activists. As of the latest available information, there is no independent confirmation of formal charges, access to legal counsel or her current condition in custody, underscoring urgent human rights concerns for her physical integrity and well-being.
