Louay Al-Azazi
Louay Al-Azazi is a Yemeni journalist whose work has covered important issues such as protests and human rights violations. In response to his work, he has been repeatedly and continuously targeted by all parties to the conflict in Yemen. He has faced injustices such as arbitrary imprisonment, torture, solitary confinement, harassment, and theft, in multiple instances and at the hands of multiple different groups. Most recently, he was subjected to an arbitrary arrest by an armed group affiliated with the Houthi group, which led to four months of solitary confinement between October 2023 and February 2024. He was released on 21 February 2024 due to extensive pressure from civil society organisations. However, he currently faces a suspended six-month prison sentence from the Press and Publications Court in Sanaa on a malicious charge of “publishing false news that disturbs civil peace,” in response to his posts on social media. He is unable to appeal the charge due to threats from the judges.
