Mahmoud bin Al-Murr Al-Ghabshi is an Omani businessman and internet activist who, on 27 August 2022, participated in a peaceful sit-in in Muscat alongside his colleagues Hani bin Ali Al-Sarhani and Saud Al-Mardouf Al-Kathiri. The sit-in aimed to advocate for economic reforms, improved income levels, simplification of government procedures, and the fight against corruption. Despite adhering to laws limiting gatherings to fewer than ten people, Mahmoud bin Al-Murr Al-Ghabshi was arrested within hours by the Internal Security Service and taken to an undisclosed location without any communication with his family or legal representation. The security authorities did not announce the place of their detention or the nature of the charges against them, leaving them completely cut off from the outside world.
