Maisa Saleh

Maisa Saleh, of Syrian origin, is a broadcaster and human rights activist who was arbitrarily arrested on 23 April 2013 due to her work with Orient TV channel and spent about seven months in Palestine branch or section 235, one of the branches of the Military Intelligence Department in Damascus, before being released. Saleh began working with Orient TV in 2013 on a weekly program broadcast from Damascus to introduce civil activities and later worked as a reporter for the channel in Gaziantep, Turkey. On 31 January 2015, Orient TV informed Saleh in a letter that she had been fired from her job without giving any reason, immediately after she had clicked “like” on Facebook posts critical of the channel’s owner, who had been criticised for inappropriate comments about minorities in Syria. Following her dismissal, the channel reportedly started a smear campaign against Saleh.
