Marwan Al-Hamid
Marwan Al-Hamid is a Syrian civil society activist and independent journalist from Kafar Roma, west of Ma’arat Al-Nu’man in Idlib countryside. He was arrested on 02 September 2018 by an armed group in Kafr Nabl (Idlib governorate) and transferred to Al-Eqab prison without any stated reason, and more than two weeks later there remains no accurate information about his whereabouts or the reasons for his arrest. Al-Hamid has worked as a journalist in various media institutions since 2011, and has contributed to several projects led by humanitarian organisations in Idlib. The Gulf Centre for Human Rights deplores his detention and demands his immediate and unconditional release, emphasising that all parties in Syria must uphold public freedoms, including press freedom and freedom of expression.
