Marwan Al-Muraisy
Marwan Al-Muraisy is a Yemeni writer, journalist and online activist. He moved to Saudi Arabia in 2003 and began his journalism career there. On 1 June 2018, he was arrested in his home by Saudi security forces and subjected to enforced disappearance. His arrest was part of a string of arrests targeting human rights activists, writers, journalists, and academics, with a focus on those defending women’s rights to drive and live free of the guardianship system. Before his account was forcibly closed after his imprisonment, Al-Muraisy had a following of over 100,000 on X (formerly Twitter), where he posted about his areas of expertise, including digital media and human development. He also published a book in 2014, entitled “Sparrow’s Milk”. On 11 April 2023, his sister Tahany Al-Muraisy posted on X that he had been released from imprisonment and deported.
