Maryam Baghi is the daughter of Iranian human rights defender Emadeddin Baghi and was targeted by the Iranian authorities alongside her mother Fatima Kamali in connection with their peaceful engagement in human rights education. In 2007, both women were sentenced to three years in prison, suspended, and placed on five years probation for attending a human rights training workshop held in Dubai in 2004.
