Marzieh Moradveisi
Marzieh Moradveisi is an Iranian women’s rights defender and civil society activist from Sanandaj, Iran, with a long history of peaceful activism advocating for gender equality, social justice and community rights. She has been a member of the local charity association Zhianeh, through which she engaged in women’s empowerment efforts and civil rights work. During previous periods of repression, Moradveisi was repeatedly harassed by security forces, including arrests and convictions on politically motivated charges such as “propaganda against the state,” and served portions of her sentence in Sanandaj Prison following convictions by the Revolutionary Court in 2022. In the context of the nationwide protests that began in late December 2025 and the Iranian government’s intensified crackdown on human rights defenders, security forces raided Marzieh Moradveisi’s home in Sanandaj on 7 January 2026 and arrested her without a publicly disclosed warrant. She was subsequently transferred to an undisclosed location, and there has been no independent confirmation of her place of detention or legal charges. Attempts by her family and associates to obtain information about her fate have been unsuccessful amid severe internet shutdowns and restrictions on independent reporting.
