Mayadah Al-Khaleel

Mayadah Al-Khaleel is a Syrian human rights defender and blogger associated with the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression. She was arrested on 16 February 2012 during a raid by Air Force Intelligence on SCM’s Damascus office and was subsequently held incommunicado. On 22 April 2012, the Military Prosecutor in Damascus informed her, along with several colleagues, that she would face trial before a military court on charges of “possessing prohibited materials with the intent to disseminate them.” As of the date of the GCHR’s joint appeal of 21 June 2012, there was no accurate information about her current status or the outcome of any judicial proceedings.
