Mohammed Al-Hammadi
Mohammed Al-Hammadi is a journalist from Yemen. He was violently attacked on the evening of 20 July 2025, while returning home in a dark area on the outskirts of Al-Turbah city, Taiz Governorate, when unknown individuals struck him on the head with a square piece of iron, causing severe bleeding and loss of consciousness before a passing motorcyclist rushed him to the hospital. As a correspondent for Suhail Satellite TV, Al-Hammadi had previously received threats connected to his reporting on sensitive humanitarian and political issues in Taiz, prompting fellow journalists, civil society activists, and citizens to denounce the assault as a deliberate attempt by local authorities aligned with the internationally-recognised government to silence independent voices. The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate (Taiz branch) condemned the attack as a grave violation of press freedom, reiterated the threats Al-Hammadi had received, and demanded a prompt, transparent investigation and accountability for the perpetrators.
