Mohammed Al-Hitari is a photojournalist from Yemen. He was arbitrarily arrested on 21 May 2025 in Al-Hudaydah Governorate by an armed group affiliated with the Houthis without any judicial warrant during a coordinated sweep targeting approximately 13 journalists and media professionals. He has since been held in custody by the Security and Intelligence Service in Al-Hudaydah, without formal charges. The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate condemned the sweep on 25 May 2025, denouncing it as a deliberate attack on journalists and the right to freedom of opinion and expression. The Media Freedoms Observatory in Yemen also expressed deep concern over this mass arrest campaign, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained media workers.
