Mohammed Al-Meyahi

Mohammed Al‑Meyahi, Yemeni journalist and writer, was abducted from his home by armed Houthi militants on 20 September 2024 and subjected to enforced disappearance for several months. On 24 May 2025, the Houthi‑run Specialised Criminal Court in Sana’a sentenced him to 18 months in prison, imposed a financial guarantee of five million Yemeni riyals, and forced him to sign a pledge to cease all journalistic activities under threat of penalty. The charges stemmed from his social media posts and articles critical of the Houthis, accusing him of publishing false statements intended to disturb public security. The trial breached fair‑trial standards as the verdict was read aloud from a mobile phone and the legal proceedings occurred within a parallel judicial system lacking neutrality.
