Mohammed bin Khatir bin Rashid Al-Badi

Mohammed bin Khatir bin Rashid Al-Badi is an Omani law student and human rights activist who has been actively involved in promoting reform and the exercise of freedom of expression in Oman. He participated in distributing information related to political and social reforms and attended meetings with other human rights defenders. In July 2012, the Court of First Instance in Muscat sentenced him to one year in prison for allegedly insulting the Sultan and an additional six months for violating information technology law. Along with the prison sentence, he was fined SR 1000 (around 2600 dollars). He was released from detention on bail pending the hearing of his appeal.
