Mohammed Farouk Suleiman

Mohammed Farouk Suleiman is a Sudanese political activist and founding member of the Forces for Freedom and Change, a civilian coalition that played a crucial role in Sudan’s 2019 democratic transition. On 19 January 2025, he was arrested by UAE security forces at Dubai Airport just before boarding a flight. As of 15 April 2025, he remains unlawfully detained without charge or trial. He is reportedly held in a detention facility under the authority of the UAE State Security. His detention is widely seen as politically motivated, a part of a wider pattern of oppression towards Sudanese activists in the UAE. On 12 March 2025, his friends released a memorandum calling for his release, pointing out his deteriorating condition, and requesting that the international community and Sudanese authorities step in. His case highlights the systematic and dictatorial suppression of civil and political rights, such as freedom of press, assembly, and expression, in the United Arab Emirates.
