Mohammed Khammash
Mohammed Khammash was a Yemeni educational expert and director of Al-Nahda schools. On 6 June 2024, he was abducted by Houthi forces in Sanaa, along with several colleagues, due to their involvement in developing educational curricula. Many of his colleagues remain detained, facing accusations of “espionage.” After three months of arbitrary detention in complete isolation, Mohammed Khammash died in Houthi custody. On 22 October 2024, his family received a call from officials at the Houthi-run Security and Intelligence Service prison, asking them to come and collect his body without disclosing the circumstances surrounding his death. His death has raised concerns about the safety of detainees in Houthi prisons and the broader crackdown on educational experts in Yemen.
