Mohammed Qaid Al-Maqri

Mohammed Qaid Al-Maqri was a Yemeni journalist and correspondent for the Yemen Today TV channel. On 12 October 2015, he was abducted by armed individuals while covering an anti-Al-Qaeda protest in Al-Mukalla, the capital of Hadhramaut Governorate, during a period when the area was under the control of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. After nearly nine years of enforced disappearance, AQAP announced on 28 December 2024 that they had executed Al-Maqri, along with 10 other individuals, accusing them of espionage. However, his family issued a statement on 2 January 2025 expressing strong doubts about the veracity of AQAP’s claim and holding out hope that he might still be alive. The International Federation of Journalists and the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate condemned the execution, calling it a heinous crime and demanding accountability for those responsible.
