Mona Suhail Hardan
Mona Suhail Hardan is an Omani student and human rights defender known for her online activism. She writes on social media, including her Facebook page “AlWard AlDhofari (Dhofar Flowers),” where she discusses social and political issues and advocates for reform.
She was sentenced on 16 July 2012 by the Court of First Instance in Muscat to one year in prison for allegedly insulting the Sultan and an additional six months for violating Oman’s information technology law. She was also fined 1,000 Omani Rials (approximately $2,600). Her sentencing followed her participation in activities related to reform and her online writings. She was released on bail pending the outcome of her appeal.
