Muawiya Al-Rawahi
Muawiya Al-Rawahi is an Omani blogger and human rights defender who has been targeted for his online activism and criticism of ruling authorities in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). On 24 February 2015, he was stopped by UAE security intelligence agents at the border and prevented from returning to Oman. He was then detained incommunicado in Al-Wathba prison, where he was placed in solitary confinement, raising serious concerns about his safety and well-being.
During his detention, he faced repeated delays in his trial, and medical attention was initially withheld despite his health needs. Al-Rawahi reported being denied medication for two months and spent a week in the hospital to receive treatment. He also spent four months in solitary confinement and publicly expressed threats to harm himself if fair treatment was not provided.
On 14 March 2016, the UAE Federal Supreme Court found Muawiya Al-Rawahi not guilty, and he was released and deported back to Oman on 20 March 2016.
