Munira Abdullah

Munira Abdullah, a civil society activist and employee based in Sulaymaniyah, Iraqi Kurdistan, is affiliated with the Kurdistan National Stance Movement (Helwesti). On 25 June 2025, security forces in civilian clothing arrested her along with several others, including teachers and members of civil society, as they protested outside Helwesti’s office over unpaid salaries and demands for justice. On 26 June 2025, further mass arrests occurred across Sulaymaniyah targeting civil society activists, political organisers, journalists and media teams covering the unfolding protests. Abdullah’s detention reflects a pattern of pre‑emptive repression by security authorities against peaceful protest organisers and community figures.
