Murtada Al-Iraqi is a civil society activist from the Suq Al-Shuyukh district of Dhi Qar Governorate in southern Iraq, known for his volunteer work in support of local citizens and his persistent advocacy for improved public services. On 7 May 2025, he was arrested by a security force from his home and detained at the town’s police station. The arrest was directly related to his peaceful efforts to hold local authorities accountable and demand basic public services for his community. He was released on bail on 11 May 2025 by an investigative judge.
