Nabil Mohammed Al-Sadawi

Nabil Mohammed Al-Sadawi is a Yemeni journalist who was arrested on 21 September 2015 by members of the Houthi group and the Security and Intelligence Service in Sana’a. He was subjected to enforced disappearance for five and a half months, during which he was denied visits, tortured, and forced to sign pre-written confessions under threats and ill-treatment, leading to a deterioration of his health. On 22 February 2022, he was sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of various crimes, including allegedly working for Saudi Arabia, following an unfair trial that lacked international minimum standards for fair trial and due process, including denial of access to a lawyer. Although his sentence was completed on 21 September 2023, his detention continued. On 18 August 2024, the Specialised Criminal Appeal Court in Sana’a increased his sentence to nine years.
