Naïmah Al-Matrod
Naïmah Al-Matrod is a Saudi internet activist who was released from prison on 11 February 2022 after serving a six-year sentence imposed by the Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh on 10 November 2017. Her charges stemmed from participating in demonstrations and creating social media accounts advocating for the release of prisoners, activities deemed as peaceful online expression. During her incarceration at Al-Dammam prison, her health deteriorated due to ill-treatment, leading to her release in poor health. Post-release, Naïmah Al-Matrod faces a six-year travel ban and is prohibited from expressing her views on social media or speaking to the media. Additionally, she is barred from employment in the civil service or any position requiring a security clearance, reflecting the broader restrictions imposed on human rights defenders in Saudi Arabia even after their release
