Nala Super is a journalist, academic, and sports media personality from the Kurdistan region of Iraq. She has faced repeated targeting from authorities for unknown reasons. On 16 June 2022, she was arrested on charges that were initially undisclosed. She was sentenced to five years and one month in prison on 07 December 2022 for allegedly forging the annual registration for a car, though it was found later that her name was not on the registration, and that she had not knowingly committed a crime in the first place. Though she succeeded in appealing the sentence multiple times, with appeals courts ordering her release each time, authorities continued to press new charges in order to keep her in prison. On 20 December 2023, the last charge against her was overturned as invalid by the Court of Cassation, and she was released two days later.
