Nazem Hammadi

Nazem Hammadi (Hamadi) is a Syrian lawyer, poet, and human rights defender. He co-founded the Local Coordination Committees and worked to provide humanitarian assistance in Eastern Ghouta. On 9 December 2013, Nazem Hammadi was abducted in Douma, along with his colleagues Samira Khalil, Razan Zeitouneh, and Wael Hamada. The group, known as the “Douma Four,” was reportedly kidnapped by armed men, with suspicions pointing to the Islamist group Jaysh al-Islam, although the group denied involvement. Their whereabouts remain unknown, and their fate is uncertain.
