Oras Al-Eryani

Oras Al-Eryani, a Yemeni poet and writer, was abducted on 22 September 2025 after leaving his home in the Sawan neighbourhood of Sana’a and has not been heard from since. Local sources confirmed that an armed group affiliated with the Houthis kidnapped him and took him to an unknown location, while press reports suggested that the arrest came after he published a post mocking 21 September, the day the Houthis took power in 2014. Al-Eryani is a young poet known for his satirical style, with his first poetry collection “Sitting on the Eye or Standing” published in 2024, and he is also highly active on social media where he comments on public affairs and enjoys a wide following. His enforced disappearance has raised concern among rights groups, which condemned the targeting of cultural and literary voices critical of the Houthis and warned that his abduction fits into a broader pattern of silencing dissent in areas under their control. As of now, his whereabouts and the conditions of his detention remain unknown.
