Othman Kulbi
Othman Kulbi, a civil society activist and member of the Teachers and Employees Association in Sulaymaniyah, Iraqi Kurdistan, was involved in organising a peaceful demonstration on unpaid salaries. On 21 June 2025, a coalition of teachers and education employees in Sulaymaniyah announced at a press conference their plan to hold a peaceful demonstration on 26 June 2025 calling for overdue salary payments and denouncing corruption and lack of social justice. Security forces preemptively arrested several organisers. On 24 June 2025, Othman Kulbi and fellow activist Dilshad Mirani were summoned by the Internal Security Directorate, detained for two days, and subsequently released on the afternoon of 26 June 2025. Kulbi remains active in the education rights movement and continues advocating for fair treatment of teachers and public employees.
