Qais Hassan is an Iraqi writer and journalist. On 16 July 2024, former Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi filed a lawsuit against Qais Hassan, demanding compensation of 250 million Iraqi dinars (approximately 150,000 €) for insulting him. This complaint was linked to a Facebook post by Hassan on 30 June 2024, where he wrote, “The worst people in thought and behaviour ruled Iraq after 2003; I do not exclude any of them at all… and Al-Kadhimi surpassed them all.” The post was later removed following the lawsuit. On 19 December 2024, the Karkh Court fined Hassan five million Iraqi dinars in moral compensation but rejected the request to increase the amount.
